House finding

Dearest Brinkley,

We found our new home!  You are going to love it.  There are almost 11 acres of land, including woods and nature trails.  The amount of exploring you will get to do is going to be awesome.  Our house is nice and cozy, just the right size for me to keep up with, and the bedrooms are huge!  You will have plenty of room for all your toys and superhero costumes.  There's also....a second house!  Small but with a loft and kitchen and bathroom and all....perfect for Granddaddy (and our other friends and family) to come visit.  We will also put the pool table in there and I have a feeling you will enjoy hanging out in that space as you get older.  You and I will mow the grass with the zero-turn while your Daddy mows with a tractor.  When you get older, he will teach you how to drive the tractor yourself.  I know you will enjoy that.  There will be many milestones at our new home.  Oh and by the way, the beach is less than a mile away and there's a splash pad and a playground and a water park!

But nothing compares to your first home....  Although I am so happy we are moving down to the Coast, there were many milestones in our Senatobia home.  In January of 2014, your Daddy was travelling during the week for work.  I came home from my job one Monday and took a test and found out I was pregnant with you.  I still remember crying and hugging Cooper and Eli, who must have thought I was insane.  I did not want to tell your Daddy over the phone, so I wait the longest week ever for him to come home Friday night.  There's a video on your facebook page of his reaction to the Ole Miss baby clothes I had set out in what became your room.  My mom, your Grandmomma, came over once a week to cook in my kitchen while I was pregnant with you.  She had cancer then, but still was able to help me out.  When she didn't feel like cooking, we would go eat crawfish.  In September of 2014, you were born.  I don't know what your first few nights in that house were like, because Daddy had to take you home while I stayed in ICU in the hospital in Oxford.  But it wasn't too much longer before you and Daddy came to get me and we all 3 got to go home together.  Many sleepless nights in that house when you were a baby.  Luckily your Grandmomma was able to help out a lot by coming to let me nap.  In 2015, she got sicker and came to stay with us for a bit.  I'll always remember how much you made her smile, even when she was getting confused.  And y'all took a few naps together in that front room of the house.

Before your first birthday, you took your very first steps in the living room of that house.  Your Daddy and I were sitting on the shaggy rug and passing you back and forth as you walked.  It was amazing.  Your bedroom in that house had yellow walls and a gray train with your name painted on it (that your Grandmomma did for you).  As you got older, we played outside a lot more and even in the art studio some, especially before Christmas when we would make hand and footprint gifts for people.  You adored the lights on the Christmas tree in the living room and, of course, Santa's presents!  There were many milestones in that house that we are leaving behind, but we get to take the love with us to our new home.  I'm certain it will be perfect for us as long as we are all together.

Love,
Mom

  1. I just love reading these! I should work on reading them while not at work so people aren't confused when I have a tearful smile on my face :)

House Hunting

Dear Brinkley, We are in the process of finding our new forever house.  I took a job in New Orleans, LA so that we could be near the coast.  We can talk more about all that later, but I just wanted to get some thoughts out about how to find the perfect place.  There is a house that we all love....but I don't think we need to get it.  It's a difficult process to balance all the things that would be best for our family. I can just see myself cooking in that kitchen, looking over in the living room while you and your Daddy play cars or color. I can just see myself sitting on that incredibly peaceful back porch, looking over the big yard to the bayou, while you throw the frisbee to Cooper or ride your jeep. I can just see myself playing with you in the yard, driving the RZR around and making mud puddles. I can just see myself, on a bad day, still feeling at peace and at home in that secluded area, while you ride your bike down the quiet street. But it's not all abou
